I was born in Zaragoza (Spain) in 1961. I studied Physics at the Facultad de Ciencias of Universidad de Zaragoza where I got my degree in 1984. In 1986 I moved to Madrid, where I started my PhD on the atmospheric corrosion of weathering steels in the Instituto de Química-Física "Rocasolano" under the supervision of Prof. J.R. Gancedo and I really got used to 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy.  After getting my PhD in Physics in 1989 I spent several months with Dr. W. Meisel at the Institut für Anorganische und Analytische Chemie in Mainz University. There I had my first contact with Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES). Later that year I moved to the Chemistry Department of the University of Birmingham (UK) where, under the supervision of Prof. F.J. Berry, I got training in 119Sn, 121Sb and 151Eu Mössbauer  spectroscopy, I discovered the world of synchrotron radiation (I paid many visits to Daresbury Laboratory to perform many XAFS (EXAFS and XANES) experiments), and I solved some crystal structures using X-ray Diffraction. ln March 1991, I returned to the Instituto "Rocasolano" where I got a staff scientist position. In 1992 we got our first X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) system and a second one was set up in 1995. In summary, I am an spectroscopist working  in different areas where Physics, Chemistry and Materials Science merge together. Along the years I have collaborated with many groups in Spain, Europe and Latin America
